Loewe puts anthurium at the center of its spring 2023 for a collection as delicate as it is sensual

With its fleshy petals and a phallic-shaped central part (the spadix), the anthurium is that rare flower that has been obsessing fashion for years. Saint Sernin has listed her in their 2023 spring. Today Loewe has done the same, making it the beginning and end of his parade. As I had already anticipated on Instagram, a huge version was erected in the space of La Garde Républicaine in Paris, on a white, sterilized background. Under it, a staircase from which each of the collection’s proposals has been emerging, with the sound of heels in the background. Its creative director, Jonathan Anderson, usually makes a motif the leitmotif of the garments each season. Yes autumn 2022 we saw lips and balloons, on this occasion the firm has brought flower to each of its garments and accessories. The most obvious way has been through the dresses: pieces with flared skirts and mini format accompanied by three-dimensional anthuriums as a top, in shades of black to red. Anderson transfers the very sensual character of this flower to lingerie dresses, in which the flower covers one of the breasts and its central part simulates the shape of the nipple.

Loewe continues to explore the idea of volume through proposals that redraw the female figure. The dresses add a kind of hip-distorting mini pant, while other looks with jackets (also aviators) incorporate knit-lined tubular tops. A pointed neckline is an option in which draped dresses are presented next spring, which contrasts with the rigidity of corsets and other armor dresses, with floral motifs and polished finishes.

The ballerinas are the perfect complement for these outfits, whether they are transparent, with flowers, or in a more neutral black color. Loewe follows the same line with its bags: small Puzzles are full of flowers, while other models such as the quilted Goya continue to be another of the Spanish firm’s bets in basic tones such as black. Coincidence or not, the Flamenco bag (the anthurium is also known as the “flamingo flower”) is also the protagonist of this spring. And it is updated both in print and size: a bag in a mini or XL version that incorporates a short handle, without neglecting its recognizable closure with two cord pulls.
